- AboutTabernacle Baptist Church exists to encourage all people to pursue a lifelong, joyous relationship with Jesus Christ. Our history dates back to 1955, when the church was founded with a small group of people in Wheaton, Illinois. We are a nondenominational, evangelical Christian church. That means that we are governed by our own elders, not an outside organization. Look below to learn more of what Tabernacle is all about. The “evangelists” are those who begin at home and then go out among the nations, bringing the Gospel of repentance, grace, and faith in Jesus Christ for the purposes of the conversion of the souls to God. Evangelists also are to “teach” and “baptize” (Matt. 28:18-20) which entails planting local Bible preaching churches.
